Indian to be new
Adobe CEO
SAN
FRANCISCO: Forty-three year old Shantanu Narayen, arguably
Hyderabad's most successful business entrepreneur internationally,
was named on Monday to take over as chief executive officer of Adobe
Systems Inc, maker of the popular Photoshop, Flash and Acrobat
programmes.
The company announced that Narayen would take over from Bruce Chizen
as CEO on December 1. Currently, Narayen is president and chief
operating officer and will retain his title as Adobe's president
when he joins the Adobe board in December. His current annual
package, at $2.6 million cash compensation and $26 million in stock
option, is expected to shoot up once he takes over as CEO.
Narayen has been president and COO of Adobe for almost three years.
Narayen joined Adobe in 1998 as vice-president and general manager
of engineering. In 1999, he was promoted to senior vice-president,
and in January 2005 he became president and COO.
Narayen graduated in electronics and communications engineering from
Osmania College of engineering. In the US, Narayen did his masters
in computer science from Bowling Green State University and a
master's degree in business administration from the Haas School of
Business. A keen tennis player, he was active in Hyderabad's
debating and quizzing circles. He also holds five patents against
his name.
