Akalis leave devp
of Amritsar to RSS-BJP MP
WSN Network
Amritsar: In a queer
sort of prioritising, the Akali Dal and the panthic lobby of SGPC et
al have left the domain of development of Amritsar to an RSS-BJP MP
comedian and motormouth Navjot Singh Sidhu whose other penchant is
to appear in a dhoti at havans and yagays. At a time when the
by-election for Amritsar (South) Assembly constituency is slated for
May 22, Sidhu has claimed that a sum of Rs 106 crore had been
earmarked to materialise Master Plan made for the overall
development of the city and a global tendering system was being
adopted to initiate developmental works.
However, panthic circles are worried that Sidhu seems to be hogging
all the importance and the Sikh voice on how Amritsar is to be
developed is completely lost. The new development plans of an MP
whose party is an unabashed votary of total liberalisation and has
no record of taking care of the poor and the downtrodden will have
the final say in economic and social development of a city as
important for the Sikhs as Amritsar is something that is not even
bothering the ruling party.
For Sidhu, the idea of planning has priorities like adding full
sized palm trees and other ornamental trees with landscaping along
with the big portraits of Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple with
laser lights and he called this the "highlight of the plan for
improvement." He said all roads in the city will be provided within
colourful footpath with interlocking tiles, lamps posts and road
furniture.
