Will RSS have a new chief soon?
NAGPUR / WSN Network
India's highly
communal Hindu right wing outfit, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),
has been bitten by a youth bug. Saffron grapevine is currently abuzz
with rumours that Mohan Bhagwat, currently number two, will take
over from RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan.
The RSS-led
right wing Hindutva swell was responsible for the demolition of a
16th century mosque in Ayudhya holy to Muslims where RSS-BJP wanted
to raise a temple to Lord Ram.
Punjab's Akali
Dal currently has an inexplicable partnership in power with the
RSS-BJP and is accused of secularising the Sikh religion.
Sources said
with a mega RSS conclave before Holi, some RSS leaders see the
possibility of Sudarshan, 77, handing over the reins to Bhagwat.
Normally, the RSS has witnessed a change of guard only when the
existing chief steps down in favour of his successor on grounds of
ill health. For some months now, Bhagwat has been running the
organisation. Sudarshan has stayed away from interactions with top
BJP leaders, leaving it to Bhagwat to convey what the RSS wishes to
say on key issues.
When RSS and BJP
leaders met at L.K. Advani’s house on January 2, it was Bhagwat who
delivered the message to assembled leaders, including Rajnath Singh,
M.M. Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj to
underline that the RSS will back Advani all the way, but the RSS is
also seen as a force that keeps the BJP wedded to the agenda of
aggressive Hindu.
