PAU experts to assess farmer suicides
WSN Network

SANGRUR: Punjab government has asked Punjab Agriculture University economists to assess farmers suicides and suggest steps to stem the menace. The PAU economics department has pressed into service 30 enumerators and economists to conduct a thorough survey on farm crisis. BKU Ekta, NGO Movement Against State Repression (MASR) and Punjab Farmers' Commission had put the suicides at such varying figures as 40,000, 12,000 and 131, respectively, economist and senior survey member professor Sukhpal Singh said, "Now, our team will conduct the survey keeping in mind three vital points - magnitude of suicide, reasons behind it (economical, social or multiple) and impact on affected family."
