Youth accused of throwing water on a granthi
WSN Network

AMRITSAR: In a rather queer development which hurt the religious sentiments of many Sikhs, a youth in his 20's with trimmed hair and beard threw “sarovar” water on a Granthi when he was reciting Gurbani at the Akal Takht. Another Granthi quickly overpowered the culprit, identified as Harpreet Singh alias Sunny, who was possibly beaten up by some SGPC staffers after the incident before being handed over to the police

The incident comes close on the heels of another disturbing development when a youth had violated maryada by sitting on the “peehda” meant to place Guru Granth Sahib in the sanctum sanctorum of Harmandar Sahib.

Sunny was seemingly under the influence of smack but it is not known why he threw water on the Granthi. He had collected the water in a plastic jar from the sarovar.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and SGPC secretary Dalmegh Singh, who rushed to the spot, tried to pacify the devotees.
