Election Update
WSN Network

According to estimates of the Election Commission of India, nearly 50 percent of the Indian electorate exercised their franchise in the five-phase elections which concluded this evening. Elections to nine constituencies in Punjab were held today, which was by and large peaceful, with minor skirmishes between Badal Dal and Congress in Moga.

With counting to be held on 16 May, the Congress, BJP and the fledgling Third Front will try all games that politicians play to reach the magical figure of 272 in a house of 543 members.

In Punjab, the Congress is pretty certain that they would rout the ruling SAD-BJP combine and Captain Amarinder Singh has gone ahead and invited the media for a victory conference on the afternoon of May 16.
