DALLAS: Sangat
of Greater Dallas area celebrated the Gurpurab of the tenth Sikh
master, Guru Gobind Singh, with enthusiasm at the Sikh Temple
Garland. Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib were performed and the Palki
was taken around the parikarma. Sewa of Nishan Sahib was also
performed.
Bibi Rupinder
Kaur did kirtan of the compositions of Guru Gobind Singh.
Students of
Gurdwara Singh Sabha Khalsa School in kesri and white turbans and
dupattas add a Khalsa touch to the entire celebrations.
Giani Panjab
Singh did katha at the gurdwara and elaborated upon the life and
times of the tenth master while Bhai Santokh Singh, Baljit Singh and
Hardas Singh rendered some beautiful melodious keertan.
Gurdwara Sahib's
management committee's secretary Surinder Singh Gill said the true
tribute to such a great master will be that we all become Amritdhari
by partaking the Amrit of Khanda and Bata that the Quom was blessed
with in 1699.
Connecting some
of the contemporary events in Punjab and elsewhere with the pattern
of efforts by some anti-Panthic forces, he said the tactics being
used by some Hindutva minded lobbies in diluting the unique Sikh
identity were again at work. He termed the recent changes made in
the Nanakshahi Calendar as part of such anti-Sikh efforts and said
this was nothing but an RSS agenda at work.
The sangat at
the Diwan Hall vowed to stick to the earlier Nanakshahi Calendar and
rejected all changes. It also asked the panth's leaders to prevent
any division in the ranks.
