Celeb status for Rohanpreet L'il
Champ
Gagandeep Kaur
The
chubby kid, desirous of setting up a health club for his father is
now amongs the three twinkling stars in the L’il Champs sky. His
training as a singer, his continuing good performance as a singer
and a performer on stage and sustained voting by a section of the
Sikh community thrilled at the emergence of Sikhs in the
entertainment industry has brought him to this par. Good fortunes
and voting bonanza has made Rohanpreet a sequel to Ishmeet.
It is a little
surprising that though the Sikhnetwork continues to campaign for
Rohanpreet, no school has taken the campaign for Rohanpreet’s
success to the streets.
While Ishmeet is
busy cutting albums –both religious and filmi stuff, television
channels are seriously playing the realty game. Along with their
advertisers, mobile companies and the kids (two of which Tanmay and
Amir Afiz who have already sung for Amitabh Bachhan), these talent
shows have brought windfalls of money and fame. They all seem to be
happily singing:
Sing a song,
shake a leg
Wear a crown, fill your bag.
Gone are the
days when singers, lyricists and musicians would talk about years of
training and practice. Today, in the music industry, as in all
walks of life, everyone desires instant results. However it is a
pleasant surprise to see both the judges –Sonu Nigam and Suresh
Wadkar extolling the importance of serious efforts for all the
participants. Rohanpreet’s throat quality has always been praised
and that has been his major plus point. Though such programmes have
their own lack of seriousness, still the presence of old time ustads,
their nasihat is there for grabs if someone has the ears for
it.
Recognition
of singing talent amongst children comes on the heels of growing
attention of child rights in cinema and that is a healthy
development. Going beyond the text book will also bring forth
untapped talent as heretofore there has been far too much stress on
arts, science and commerce. No world beyond these three streams
ever existed. At last, we are having a choice, howsoever trivial
it may look to some. Rohanpreet seeks more preet in the form of
votes to become the ultimate champ.
