Report says
Ishmeet drowned, family rejects it
Patiala: A four-member board of doctors of Government Medical
College, Patiala, claimed Ishmeet Singh died of drowning and not
due to head injury but the family has rubbished the report.
The viscera report was sent to the Ludhiana Civil Hospital for
further action but the late singer's parents demanded a CBI
inquiry into his death saying it should be probed under what
circumstances he drowned.
Ishmeet had drowned in a swimming pool in a hotel in Maldives on
July 29 when he had gone there for an international event. After
a post mortem by a panel of doctors, the viscera had been sent
to Patiala to find the cause of death. His family had demanded a
probe into Ishmeet’s death.
The demand for a highlevel probe had been gaining momentum and
even chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had urged Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh to inquire into the matter. |

Badal also announced
setting up of a state-of-the-art auditorium in the memory of noted
playwright Harpal Tiwana.
While releasing a
book titled ‘Oh jo si’ penned by the late playwright’s wife Neena
Tiwana, he said that the memorial was expected to come up either at
Patiala or Mohali. Neena Tiwana said that the book, which chronicles
writer’s life and works on his 73rd birthday, was her effort to
perpetuate his vision and passion for Punjabi theatre for the coming
generations.
Badal asked the
Harpal Tiwana Foundation to submit a detailed project report for
setting up a theatre and to work out the final details in
consultation with prominent artists to make the auditorium one of
the best facilities in the country.
Creative director of
the foundation and Harpal Tiwana’s son Manpal Tiwana said that the
aim of the foundation was to create a permanent legacy that would
honour his late father’s commitment to Punjabi performing arts and
to preserve, enhance and promote Punjabi culture through the medium
of performing arts.
