Indian diaspora
event planned in Singapore
WSN Network
SINGAPORE: Singapore
will host a business-focussed ‘Indian diaspora event’ in October
that is being projected as the first-ever “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas”
outside India. The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI)
is the main organizer. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is
backing the event being overseen by India’s Ministry of Overseas
Indian Affairs.
An event of a similar nature at a much smaller scale did take place
in New York in October last year, but the Singapore show from
October 9 to 11 will be a much bigger extravaganza. The theme will
be “Towards a dynamic diaspora.”
It recognizes the growing profile of the Indian diaspora and
Singapore's importance in the Asia-Pacific region. Some 600
delegates – people of Indian origin abroad, resident and
non-resident Indians, and foreigners with deep interest in ties with
India – are expected to participate.
