Badal's
commondoes hell bent on 'adjusting' Vedanti
WSN Network
Amritsar: Having humiliated the Jathedar of Akal Takht and
denigrating the seat of authority, Parkash Singh Badal's men are now
on a damage control mission. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar met
him, CM's tagged-along D S Cheema visited his residence and
mediators are proactive with plans to enact a ‘rehabilitation’ drama
and "honour" him. There is no word about why he was dishonoured in
the first place, and why he is continued to be humiliated everytime
Makkar and company tell the media that Vedanti ji had resigned on
his own.
On his part, Vedanti seems to have found new friends. He told Makkar
he has no time for adjustment slots and has refused to accept any
“honour” from the SGPC. CM Parkash Singh Badal’s commandoes are
however continuing the efforts.
Vedanti said he was busy with religious functions in Delhi and
elsewhere. “I do not think there is any need to honour me formally
or reserve any post for me,” he was quoted in the media.
He has also been emboldened after various Sikhs bodies, especially
from abroad, came up for his support. “The SGPC had offered me
formal farewell and a post in the upcoming religious projects. But I
have no plans to take up any such projects,” he said.
Makkar, who had met Vedanti along with Cheema said they were seeking
time from the former Jathedar for a “farewell”. That to Vedanti
seems unlike something for his welfare.
“We have high regards for Vedanti. We will find a suitable position
or post for him to utilise his expertise in Sikh affairs. He says he
is busy and we will again talk to him,” said Makkar. Clearly, the
message is understood: Vedanti was no more suitable for Akali Dal as
Akal Takht jathedar.
Former minister and known Badal basher Manjit Singh Calcutta said,
“Honouring Vedanti is an after-thought and a ‘damage repair
exercise’. I have nothing against new Jathedar Gurbachan Singh, but
the way Vedanti was removed, it points towards ‘political pollution’
that has set in and Badal is responsible for it.”
