Canadian sleuths in India for
Kanishka probe
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH: A
five-member Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) team is in India in
connection with the re-opened probe into Kanishka tragedy and the
Indian media is currently focussing on the fact that the team will
be interviewing some witnesses, including Jagtar Singh Hawara and
Paramjit Singh Bheora of Babbar Khalsa International, convicted for
assassinating former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
A Canadian judge
had acquitted the prime accused in the case three years ago after
intensive and extensive investigations and a high-profile trial.
The team, as per
a report in an Indian English daily on Wednesday, was headed by
Liaison Officer Shane Tuckey. Kanishka mid-air blast happened on
June 23,
1985, killing all 329 passengers. A virtual trila by media for years
tried to put the blame on Sikh radicals who vehemently denied any
links.
Now the Canadian
sleuths will question Hawara and Bheora in the presence of
Chandigarh Police and CBI officials. The team has applied for this
to a judge in Chandigarh who has accepted an application and granted
it permission.
