Brisbane Airport authorities
regret removing turbans
WSN Bureau
In
a communication to Waryam Singh, the president of Khalsa Mission,
the
Brisbane
airport authorities have regretted recent incidents of removal of
turbans of 13 Sikhs at the Brisbane airport for security checks. The
General Manager, Mr. Stephen Goodwin pointed out that the incident
occurred due to miscommunication and that there was no change in
policy and that there was no question of targeting members of the
Sikh community.
He applauded
the role of discussion with Sikh staff members and other leaders of
the Sikh community in understanding the sensitivities involved and
assured the Sikh community that under no circumstances would be
subject to humiliation and that their privacy would always be
respected.
