Mann out of jail, wants to contest against
Sukhbir

PATIALA: Akali Dal (Mann) president Simranjit Singh Mann was granted
bail by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in the case of
sedition foisted on him. He was asked to furnish a bail bond of Rs
20,000, besides a personal surety of an equal amount. The SAD (A)
was lodged in Patiala Central Jail from last Thursday.
A case under Section 153(A) was registered against him by the
Patiala police for his comments on Shaheed Bhagat Singh around 12
days ago while addressing a press conference here. The SAD (A)
leader had alleged that Bhagat Singh killed innocent people and
hence, "could not be a national hero". Mann has repeated the same
comments several times since coming out of jail. He has also
announced his intention to contest election opposite ruling Akali
Dal's acting and de facto president Sukhbir Singh Badal. "I will
contest opposite Sukhbir Badal, be it Parliament or state Assembly
polls and give him a befitting reply," he added. No debate has been
noticed within his party on the issue and Mann's statement seemed to
be an improptu decision in keeping with the way he has ran the party
for years.
Triggering another row, Mann said Ramayana was an epic created by
Aryans to coerce Dravidians in their own way. "Ravana was, indeed, a
good character and Sikhs should desist from burning his effigies,”
he said.
