Fremont Gurdwara sets bench-mark
for senior citizens
WSN Network
FREMONT:
Ever since the Gurdwara Sahib at Fremont has become a hub of
community's religious, political and cultural life, a large number
of senior citizens used to wish for a more accomodative place where
they can spend time with each other and discuss some of the issues.
Now, thanks to some dedicated souls and efforts of young and
enterprising Sikh community members, the Gurdwara sports new benches
for these senior citizens.
The owner of the
firm which has made these benches was honored at the gurdwara as he
also showed an egalitarian spirit and advanced a $1,000 discount,
thus extending a gesture of goodwill to the community.
Dedicated
community member Bhupinder Singh, owner of the A-1 Interiors made
his contribution by helping with cement etc. He had earlier also
helped in raising the hall in memory of Sant Jarnail Singh
Bhindranwale.
Baba Bikkar
Singh, who often takes the lead in doing langar sewa, hailed the
step to install new benches and said the elderly members of the
sangat needed this facility. In any case, he said, it was after all
only the duty of the younger people now to take care of the seniors.
Elderly leader
Baba Harbant Singh also blessed all those who thought and worked for
the new facility. S. Harbhajan Singh Dhillon of village Sursinghwala
said the new committee has done so much in just 15-16 months and
many tasks had been lingering for so many years earlier.
Supreme
Council's senior member Bha Jaswinder Singh Jandi thanked the senior
members of the sangat for their encouraging words. Bhai Harjot Singh
Khalsa said they were making efforts to carry along all sections. So
while care was being taken to create new facility for the elderly,
camps were being organised to get the children to the gurdwara and
help them reconnect with the Sikh way of life.
He said the best
things would happen if everyone joins in the good work rather than
spending time in making allegations.
Senior council
member Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa, Union City Commissioner Garry
Singh, gurughar's senior vice president Bhai Hardev Singh Pradhan,
assistant treasurer Bibi Gurmit Kaur Chhina, former IAF officer
Malkit Singh Dhaliwal and S. Sandhu thanked the Sikh sangat. Elderly
Sikh leader and well known businessman Dr Jagtar Singh Sandhu and
chairman of the membership committee Dr Gurmel Singh Dhaliwal
inaugurated the benches.
