Will Chidamabaram listen to this
Planning Commission member?

AMRITSAR: At a
time when India's Home Minister P Chidambaram is leading the shrill
crescendo against Maoists and advocating use of massive force to
obliterate the violence in India's hinterland, a key member of the
Planning Commission of India has called Maoist uprising a
manifestation of internal turmoil due to the digital divide.
Sayeda Hameed,
member, Planning Commission, who visited Amritsar on Thursday and
recalled his experience from a recent visit to the Naxalite infested
Palamu area in Jharkhand, said she was horrified to find that the
area does not have basic amenities like schools and health care
despite being close to Ranchi.
The question why
does not the Indian media bring this out and why does not men like P
Chidambaram, who do not open their eyes even when someone flings a
shoe at them, see this reality.
"The hotel where
I had put up was one of the most - luxurious that I have ever stayed
in, but yet the land a few km beyond its periph eries had virtually
nothing, which showed signs of the vast digital divide between the
haves and the have nots," Hameed said.
She said
Naxalism is affecting over 40 per cent of the country's districts.
Of the total of less than 600 districts in the country, Naxalism has
affected more than 250.
