Sikh, Muslim women join hands to educate locals
WSN Network

FREMONT: In an attempt to quell the false notion about themselves in the minds of many Americans, and to tell the world about who exactly are Sikhs, a few Sikh women joined their Muslim counterparts this Saturday at a Fremont community center to spread the message.

Termed by the local media as “unusual joint forum”, the effort of the Sikh Coalition to join hands with the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Santa Clara to address discrimination was highly hailed by the community.

It was afirst for local Sikhs and Muslims to have such a multifaith forum to address shared concerns.

Many Sikhs have complained post 9/11 that they have faced abuse or attacks by some locals who mistook them for Arabs or terrorists.

Harsimran Kaur, the director of the Sikh Coalition, said a lot of “covert discrimination” happens all the time.
