Berkeley to host talk on Women
in 1984

Berkeley: Sikh
Students Association and Jakara group will be organizing a talk on
women's role during the 1984 occurences in
India.
Speakers will be Cynthia Mahmood, Navkiran Khalra and Jasmine
Mahrava from Ensaaf.
The meeting to
be held on campus on November 21, Saturday, will be open to Berkeley
students and also to the Sikh community. Exact time and locations
will be notified soon.
Navkiran Khalra
is the daughter of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra who
was kidnapped, tortured, and killed by the police in 1995 for
questioning the disappreances of thousands of Sikhs during and after
1984. She is currently in the US for her masters degree and will be
speaking at the event.
Jasmine Marwaha,
co-creator of Ensaaf, is a 2006 graduate of Harvard Law School (HLS)
and recipient of the Irving R. Kaufman Fellowship from HLS. She
actively works to achieve justice for Sikhs.
