Baba Daljit Singh Chicago in new
immigration fraud row
WSN Network
Patiala:
Self styled Baba Daljit Singh of Chicago continues to reel under
trouble with the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) now
instructing the Patiala police to register a case against him on the
basis of a complaint filed by a Patiala resident Gurmail Singh who
had accused the district police administration of not taking any
action in an immigration fraud allegedly committed by the Baba.
Commission members
LR Roojam and KK Bhatnagar have said Patiala SSP Ranbir Singh
Khattra must get the matter probed. The panel has set a deadline for
the complete report as the next date of hearing which is January 8,
2010.
Gurmail Singh had
approached the Patiala police on October 10, 2009 for registration
of case against Baba Daljit Singh who, he had alleged, had duped
him of Rs 16 lakh on the pretext of sending him to America. The
plaintiff claimed that Daljit usurped the entire amount even though
he did not fulfill his promise.
The complainant
said he had given Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh in two installments to
the Baba who was permanently settled in the
US.
He said he last asked for return of his money in July 2009 but after
not getting a positive response, chose to tell the entire truth to
the Patiala police but it too did not initiate any action.
He then approached
the PHRC. Taking the cognisance of the complaint, the PSHRC issued
orders, dated November 5, 2009, which reads, “On consideration of
the allegations made in the complaint, the commission finds that a
prima facie case is spelt out as envisaged under Section 12 of the
Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, and hence the complaint in
this regard be registered as a case and SSP Patiala should submit an
inquiry report, positively by next date of hearing.”
