Sidhu cornered by Akali
councillors

Amritsar: BJP
Member of Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu had to face an embarrassing
situation on Monday as he remained speechless when a group of SAD
municipal councillors alleged his party member and city Mayor Shawet
Malik of being biased against them in sanctioning funds in their
area.
Sidhu had
arranged meeting of all the SAD councillors to interact with Malik
at his residence. The former cricketer was cornered for the alleged
biased attitude of Malik who was criticised for “deliberately
ignoring” all the municipal wards belonging to SAD candidates.
Malik was
appointed Mayor of Amritsar on Sidhu’s recommendation. Out of total
65 councillors in the house, SAD has 18 and BJP has 17 while the
Congress has 21 seats and the rests belong to independents.
Akali councillor
Avtar Singh said that the announcement of Parliament elections has
brought Sidhu from deep slumber, otherwise the Mayor as well the MP
were not willing to heed SAD councillors.
Another
councillor Kashmir Singh who is also the deputy Mayor alleged that
Rs 65 crore funds allocated by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash
Singh Badal recently for the city but all the funds were incurred on
the wards belonged to BJP councillors. Sidhu apologised to SAD
councillors and directed the Mayor to heed to the SAD councillors
and sort out their grievances.
