Can you better this? A BJP-PDP alliance in Kashmir!
WSN Network

JAMMU: Power corrupts. India's trouble torn Jammu and Kashmir state recently saw an alliance that you could not have guessed even weeks back. The BJP, PDP and JKNPP entered into an alliance for contest for Legislative Council elections.

The unexpected tie up ensured the victory of J&K National Panthers Party (JKNPP) candidate in the Legislative Council elections.

National Conference-Congress alliance did manage to win seven of the nine MLC seats, for which elections were held last week but the loss of one seat did take the alliance offguard.

Pradesh Congress Committee president and Union Minister Saifuddin Soz said: “BJP, PDP and JKNPP stand exposed, as the ‘unethical’ alliance exposes the fact that their leaders have been befooling the people of Jammu in the name of regional ‘discrimination’.” Elections for four MLC seats from the Jammu Division, two from Kashmir Division and bye-elections for three seats were held. From Jammu division Ajat Shatru Singh (NC), Khalid Najeeb Suharawardhy (NC) , B.R. Kundal (Cong) and Asgar Ali (PDP) were declared elected.

There was no uncertainty about their candidature from the beginning. But, what is interesting is the fact that BJP candidate Shamsher Singh managed 12 votes, even as the party had only 11 members, so it means that he did get only one vote from JKNPP-PDP. Panther’s Party has three MLAs, while PDP has one.

The BJP had voted for PP candidate from Kashmir division, which becomes clear from the voting pattern for two MLC seats. Vijay Bakaya (NC), Ghulam Nabi Monga (Cong) and Rafiq Shah (JKNPP) were in the fray but more strange was the BJP and PDP voting together.
