Haryana Deputy CM gets new religion, new name, new wife,
and a sack
WSN Network

CHANDIGARH: It could have been a Bollywood potboiler. Haryana's Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan went missing for a month and then appeared with a new religion, new name and a new wife. He had converted to Islam, become Chand Mohd and married a former Haryana law officer Anuradha Bali who too had converted and become Fiza. Bali was sacked a few days earlier, and Chand Mohd as soon as he appeared on a TV channel. On Sunday, his father, veteran Bhajan Lal threw him out of the house, refused to have any link with him and said he will take care of Chander Mohan's first wife and her kids.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda removed his deputy immediately after he appeared on Star News to announce that he had converted to Islam and married his friend Anuradha Bali. Hooda cited his long absence as the reason and termed the rest as personal matter.

Bhajan Lal and his younger son Kuldeep Bishnoi, who was MP from Bhiwani, had rebelled against the Congress and formed their own party , the Haryana Janhit Congress (BL), in December 2007. Chander Mohan, however, stayed back in the Congress. His wife, Seema Bishnoi, was at their Panchkula residence.

Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohd was philosophical: “What is more important is that you are with the one you love. All these positions are not always there. If it is my luck, I will get it again.” As he said this, his new wife was sitting besides him in the car. Asked about his first wife of 18 years, he said, “Why don’t you ask her? If I say something, it will not be graceful.”

He is a four-time MLA from nearby Kalka. Bali, a divorcee, had known Chander Mohan for the past five yearssaid, “It was a big decision for him. His political career is at stake. Such things only happen in movies. It is very tough to do this in real life.”
