Dal Khalsa opposes war crescendo
WSN Network
JALANDHAR: As a
war would lead to loss of innocent lives on both sides of the
Radcliffe line, Dal Khalsa has appealed to
India and
Pakistan to avoid raising a crescendo of war.
At a press
conference held on the eve of 60th anniversary of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, party leaders H S Dhami and Kanwarpal
Singh strongly derided the building of war hysteria in the aftermath
of the violence in Mumbai.
Leaders of the
Sikh group said that successive Indian governments have denied the
people of
Punjab,
Kashmir
and northeast their legitimate rights including right to self
determination and subjugated them to illegal and unlawful acts of
omission and commission since the last many decades. They sought UN
intervention for peace in
South Asia.
Joining issue
with those who advocating war, they said that the dangers of a
full-fledged war between the two nuclear neighbours should not be
underestimated.
"The best thing
for both the countries is to negotiate and sort out the differences
and also find out a permanent solution to the
Kashmir problem.
The denial of justice and inequality to ethnic peoples is the prime
reason for unrest, they observed.
Asserting that
military aggression is no solution of any conflict, they said, "The
government should evolve solutions to internal problems and
political conflicts to end the vicious cycle of violence." They
warned politicians that any loose talk about 'war' could be
counter-productive.
The organization
also decided to hold a Sikh Youth Conference at
Amritsar
on December 21 to float a youth organization aimed at channelizing
their energy and potential for panthic purposes. Others who were
present during press conference were Dr Manjinder Singh, Ranbir
Singh, Kuldeep Singh.
