NEW YORK:
The Slate led by Bhai Tehal Singh has convincingly won the elections
to Sikh Cultural Society, Richmond Hill, NY gurdwara which is one of
the oldest prominent institutions of the Sikh community in the US.
Announced late
on the evening of September 28 Sunday, the results showed Bhai Tehal
Singh slate has defeated S. Gudev Singh Kang’s Slate by 189 votes.
Of the total 2183 votes polled, Bhai Tehal Singh got 1163 and Bhai
Kang polled 974. Former president of gurdwara Harpreet Singh Toor
and vice-president Bhupinder Singh Boparai were in the Slate of Bhai
Tehal Singh. Later, the winners paid
obeisance at Baba Makhan Shah
Lobana and Sikh Cultural Society gurdwara. The Kang slate was being
backed by Sikh Youth of America, American Gurdwara Prabandhak
Committee and Dr Amarjit Singh’s group. The Tehal Singh Slate was
enjoying the support of SAD(Amritsar), sangat of Bhagat Ravidas Guru
ghar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Society, Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Society,
Shaheed Udham Singh Jathebandi, Sallan Welfare Society, Malwa
Brothers Association, Baba Farid Society, Kuka Society and Ramgarhia
Sikh Society.
