COVENTRY: The
Coventry Sikh Gurdwara president Gian Singh, 72, was attacked by a
masked man armed with a iron bar during an assault in a city street
just after he had left the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash in Harnall
Lane West, Foleshill. He was walking towards a nearby bus stop when
he was approached by his attacker last Tuesday night. The assailant
didn’t say a word before launching the vicious assault, which left
him needing hospital treatment.
Gian Singh said he was able to fend
off some of the blows from the iron bar, before the masked man fled
the scene. But moments later the attacker returned again, striking
him several more times before he was disturbed by a passer-by. “I
had left the gurdwara to catch the bus and I saw a man wearing a
mask. I usually travel by car but Ididn’t have a car that night.
He
attacked me and I defended myself. He then went to his car and then
came back and attacked me again – hitting me four or five times
before driving away." “It could have been a lot worse – I was able
to defend myself.” The attacker, who is believed to have been
wearing a black stocking on his head, left the scene by car and
Singh was taken to UniversityHospital for treatment.
